Being, Death, and the Human Illusion of Knowledge

Upon reading the news of Preta Gil's death, a famous Brazilian artist, the following reflection came to mind:
When I thought nothing existed beyond the body, I used to get perplexed by death, by our human condition of transitory beings on Earth, suddenly vanishing from scene towards nothingness.

Today, I am well aware there is something within us that transcends the body, this biological disguise in which we remain during the limited span of our lives.
Nonetheless, nothing changed my perplexity when hearing that someone died. A living person with whom we shared the so brief passage in this world, but suddenly leaves the concrete stage of this world.
